A fire investigation has been launched following a blaze this morning at an empty house in the Fens.

Fire crews from Wisbech and a turntable ladder from Dogsthorpe raced to battle the fire at 4am in Tydd St Giles, near Wisbech.

When the crews arrived at the Old Post Office in Church Lane, the empty two-storey home was well alight with flames going through the roof.

Firefighters spent almost five hours putting out the blaze and a Cambridgeshire fire spokesman said there is extensive damage to the first floor and roof and internal collapse.

Fire crews are still at the scene dealing with the remaining hot spots before investigators can begin examining the property later today.
