Curry lovers hoping to dine out in Acle will miss out after councillors rejected plans to open a new Indian restaurant in the town.
The owners of the Acle Spice takeaway had hoped to open a new Indian restaurant in the current Acle Hair and Beauty shop in The Street.
Supporters said there was a demand from local people in the town and many people would be able to walk to it instead of driving to restaurants in Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
But members of Broadland District Council's planning committee rejected the plans amid concerns that the extra traffic would cause gridlock and planned changes to the shopfront would mean the restaurant would be out of keeping with the surrounding conservation area.
