Beautiful bright coloured clouds, known as mother-of-pearl clouds, appeared across our region this morning and some of our readers captured the rare sight.
The clouds form in the Earth's lower stratosphere over polar regions when the sun is just below the horizon.
They are seen mostly during winter at high latitudes in Scandinavia, Iceland, Alaska and Northern Canada, however they can occur in the UK when there are strong winds or storms.
•If you have got pictures of the rainbow cloud then please email them to edward.colman@archant.co.uk or tweet them to @EDP24.
