A Gorleston school was chosen as the launch site for a summer competition with the aim of getting youngsters writing.
Write on Norfolk, now in its second year, is a competition run by Norfolk County Council to encourage children between the ages five and 13 to pick up a pen and great creative.
The competition was launched at Cliff Park Infant School, with a special reading from children's author and competition judge Kevin Price, who gave an energetic, interactive performance.
Mr Price gave children three pointers to help their writing skills - practise, edit and read.
He said: 'There are lots of things I'm looking for in entrants, but mainly imagination, creativity and good attention to spelling, grammar and punctuation.'
Dominque Kenny, English lead at the school, said: 'As a school we were all delighted to help launch the competition and we'd love to see one of our pupils win.'
The competition was announced earlier this week, with Mr Price being joined on the judging panel by fellow author Cressida McLaughlin, Norfolk County Council representative and BBC Radio Norfolk breakfast presenter Nick Conrad.
