Plans for a Romany Gypsy pitch in a small Norfolk village have been given the go-ahead, after previously being turned down.

The site off Loddon Road in Yelverton will include a dayroom, workshop and space for a mobile home.

The scheme was previously rejected by South Norfolk Council (SNC), which was maintained at an appeal to the government's Planning Inspectorate.

However, the inspector rejected the authority's reasons for refusing the application, including that the development was in the open countryside and too far from services.

Instead, turning down the appeal due to a lack of information on whether the home would release excess nutrients into Norfolk's waterways.

The information was provided to SNC at a development committee meeting on Wednesday.

A representative for the owner said: “There is no sustainable reason to refuse the application and any such decision might result in costs being awarded.

"I would strongly urge you to approve this application and allow my client a home on the site.”

Councillors unanimously approved the scheme.
