Fire crews were called out to blaze which destroyed a stable block in west Norfolk.
Five appliances were sent to the fire which broke out at around 3pm on Wednesday on Narborough Road at Pentney, near King's Lynn.
Crews were still at the scene damping down later that evening.
Station manager Bob Ayres, from King's Lynn, said four appliances and a water carrier were sent to the scene.
'We believe a muck heap the owners thought was extinguished earlier in the day started a fire that's totally destroyed the building,' he said.
'All the animals escaped so luckily there was no loss of livestock as a result of the fire.'
One woman at the scene said horses, ponies and a donkey escaped the flames.
