A residential development could be built on the site of a car sales business in Crown Road, Dereham.

A design and access statement submitted with the proposal to Breckland Council said: “The site is highly sustainable. A five-minute walk brings residents to the fringe of Dereham town centre where a supermarket and leisure centre are found. Immediately beyond that is the town centre itself.

“As a scheme for six modest family houses in a sustainable location close to a primary town centre it is considered the scheme complies with the aims and aspirations of the relevant policies in the recently adopted Local Plan.”

However, Dereham Town Council is opposed to the application, and said the 1660sq metre site could not “accommodate this number of properties”. It added: “The proposal is too cramped, it is over-development and poor design. There are also concerns with regard to the access so close to the junction.”
