Police helicopters have joined the search for a man missing from his home in March since the early hours of today.

Concern was growing for the welfare of Bob Ballard, who was only partially clothed when he walked out of his Queen's Street Close home at 1am.

Mr Ballard was last seen at 1am wearing just a pair of blue jeans. He is described as 6ft 1in, slim with collar length greying hair and a black moustache.

Police have been searching for Mr Ballard throughout the morning and the operation was expected to continue all day.

Insp Terry Furlong said: "We are growing increasingly concerned for Mr Ballard's welfare, particularly as it's so hot.

"I would urge farmers and landowners to check outbuildings and fields in case Mr Ballard has fallen there, and would ask residents in March to look in any alleyways, sheds and or garages for the same reason.

"Mr Ballard's family are extremely worried about his safety and urgently need to find out where he is, or at least that he is safe and well."

He added that the disappearance was "completely out of character" and appealed to Mr Ballard to get in touch.
