A care home closed when its residents moved to a new £19m care village is to be refurbished and re-opened - to meet the need for places for people with dementia.
And the sale of three other former Norwich care homes has brought in £2m - which care bosses say is being used to improve care.
Four care homes run by Norfolk County Council's arms-length company Norse Care, shut last year.
The residents were moved to Bowthorpe Care Village. NorseCare had opened an 80-bed specialist dementia care home called Mayflower Court there.Other residents were among those who moved into a 92-apartment housing with care scheme, run by Saffrom Housing Trust and named The Meadows.
The 2.3 hectare complex also features a central hub, including a restaurant, cafe, hairdressers, bar and community shop.
But, with a waiting list for Mayflower Court, bosses at NorseCare say they want to make more accommodation available for people with dementia.
So they have decided not to sell Mountfield Care Home, in Millcroft to the north of the city, but to refurbish, revamp and re-open it as a dedicated home for people with dementia.
Karen Knight, managing director of NorseCare, said: 'We are now in a position where it is obvious we are not going to be able to meet the needs of the growing number of people with dementia, so we have got to invest in those care homes around Norfolk that we have got.
'Looking at Norwich, what we have decided is to keep Mountfield and to completely refurbish as a dementia unit.'
Of the other homes, Somerley House in Somerleyton Street, was on the market for £1m and was sold for £1.1m.
Heathfield, in Cannell Green, fetched £701,000 when it was listed at £690,000.
And Philadelphia House in Penn Grove went for £610,000, which was £210,000 more than the £400,000 it was on the market for.
Ms Knight said she could not reveal who the homes had been sold to.
But she said the aim was that the refurbished Mountfield care home would re-open towards the end of next year.
She said: 'We have got to get it up to standard and are looking at 39 units in there. But we are also looking at whether we could also build an extension to it.'
