One of Norfolk's top Paralympic hopefuls has vowed to give up some of his own time to inspire others to take up sport.

Seated shot-putter Danny Nobbs made his pledge during Active Norfolk's Active Networking event at Norfolk Snowsports Club in Whitlingham on Wednesday.

The event, entitled Fit4Work Active Networking Apres-Ski Action, saw business representatives be inspired by guest speakers Mr Nobbs and Team GB skier TJ Baldwin before they took to the dry ski slope for their own taster session.

Mr Nobbs, who is gearing up for a disability athletics test event at the Olympic Park on May 8, made his commitment through Active Norfolk's Pledge 2012 initiative, which calls on the people of Norfolk to get fit and active in the run-up to this summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games.

He said: ''I was very pleased to have been invited to the Active Networking event to address business delegates and speak about how my elite sports mentality can be transferred to their workplace.

'It has motivated me to make my pledge to give five hours a month of my time to inspire others to take up sport in this very special year.

'My pledge isn't going to be easy to achieve as I am in full training for this year's Paralympics, but I am confident I can use my experience to encourage others.'

Active Networking is a new networking group where members get to try out a new sport or activity and hear from someone in the sports world.

Wednesday's event was attended by 17 people from a range of different businesses. British senior downhill ski cchampion Mr Baldwin, 21, said: 'The event was great for introducing people to a new sport they have probably never tried before.

'I think my experiences and how I have developed in my sport can inspire others to get involved.'

Pledge 2012 is run in partnership with NHS Norfolk and Norfolk County Council and supported by the EDP and BBC Radio Norfolk.
