A Norfolk man left almost completely paralysed in a car accident in Kuwait has arrived back on English soil after his family raised the thousands of pounds needed to bring him home.

Alister Masters, 33, who was left in a critical condition after the two-car crash in Mahboula on April 24, was last night transferred by road from Heathrow to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he will receive treatment for a broken neck and spinal injuries. His arrival followed a month of fundraising by his family and friends, who managed to raise 12,000.

This paid for Mr Masters, who was between contracting jobs at the time of the crash and had no insurance, to be brought home on a scheduled Kuwaiti Airways flight with doctors on hand.

His sister, Diana Masters, 30, from Mundford, near Brandon, said: 'We're hugely relieved but as far as we know his medical condition is still the same and I know he is in pain.

'He needs an operation on his back but we're waiting to hear what's going on.'

Mr Masters, a former Methwold High pupil who worked in Kuwait for five years, was left unable to move 85pc of his body after the crash, which left the driver of the other car dead.
