A Norfolk MP is self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland Secretary and MP for Great Yarmouth, shared the news in a tweet on Thursday.

He said: “I have been informed that I have recently come into contact with someone who has since tested positive for coronavirus.

“While I do not currently have any symptoms, I am now self-isolating in line with government guidance.”

The news comes as record rates of coronavirus have been set in Mr Lewis’s constituency, with Great Yarmouth hitting a new high of 137.9 cases per 100,000 people as of yesterday.

The borough entered its seventh consecutive day with cases above 100, while indications for the next few days suggest the rise is unlikely to slow down.
