Norwich's children's hospital has launched a new website and logo to help raise its profile as a 'hospital within a hospital'.

The Jenny Lind Children's Hospital is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and earlier this year nearly 700 people voted to chose their favourite artwork for the new children's hospital's identity and website.

The most popular choice was a beach huts design based on the work of Norfolk-based artist Hannah Giffard.

The website is designed to draw on the artwork in the children's hospital, which has a strong local theme of beaches and the broads. The artwork and the new website have been entirely developed in-house.

Yesterday, children and staff marked the launch with the cutting of a commemorative cake featuring the beach huts design, which was made by Aylsham-based Sweet Bites Bakery.

Associate medical director and consultant neonatologist Mark Dyke said: 'Our doctors, nurses and therapists strongly believe that our local children's hospital needed a more child-friendly and prominent identity.

'We deliver health care to thousands of children from across Norfolk and north Suffolk and we really hope people will take this opportunity to visit our new website.'

The city's children's hospital is named after a famous nineteenth century Swedish opera singer whose Norwich concerts raised money for a children's infirmary. The original hospital opened in 1854 and made Norwich only the second city to have a children's infirmary.

Earlier this year, the N&N voiced fears that a proposal to build a new 120m specialist paediatric hospital at Addenbrooke's Hospital could lead to some children's services being moved out of Norfolk to Cambridge.

N&N chairman David Prior said at the time: 'Reading between the lines, in order to justify a big capital spend on a new hospital, they would have to bring in a lot of children from all over the Eastern area to support the finances required to build it.'
