A Norfolk grandmother is calling on people in her village to get active as part of her bid to be part of the county's Olympic legacy.

Margaret Wilson has made a pledge through Pledge 2012 to get more people in the village taking part in regular sport and exercise and to increase participation in the lead up to London 2012.

In a bid to achieve her pledge, she has signed up to become Active Norfolk's village sport coordinator ahead of this summer's Village Games.

Mrs Wilson, 68, has already managed to enter a team from Horning into the Norfolk Village Games 2012 and plans to organise taster sessions and road shows in the village.

The married grandmother-of-eight said: 'It's been very slow getting the project off the ground but it has been an absolute pleasure.

'Seeing the older and younger generation working together and engaging in sport is fantastic working with children as young as the and then adults really keeps my role fulfilled.

'I wouldn't have been able to enter a team, achieve my Pledge or get more people active in my village without the help of the Horning ladies badminton club, Horning village hall committee and also the bowls club.'

The Village Games will see more than 100 villages and 9,000 people from across Norfolk take part.

South Norfolk and north Norfolk villages will host their heats on June 10, Breckland and Great Yarmouth on June 17 and Broadland and west Norfolk on June 24.

The finals will be held on Sunday, July 15, at the Sportspark at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

Pledge 2012 is an Active Norfolk initiative being run in partnership with Norfolk County Council and NHS Norfolk, with support from the EDP and Radio Norfolk.

It calls for people to get more active in the lead up to this summer's games by making a sport or health related pledge.

So far, more than 1,050 people have already made a health or sporting commitment.

Pledges so far include taking up golf and archery, organising wheelchair basketball coaching sessions and cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End.
