A heartbroken couple whose baby died at birth have presented the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with a 'cuddle cot' which means other parents in the same situation can spend time with their infant.

Luna-Mai was stillborn at the hospital on February 1.

Her parents Abbie Gooch and Ryan Lewis, of Trowse, were able to spend two days with their baby and have family and friends visit, thanks to a cot borrowed from the hospital's neo-natal unit.

The cot is a piece of cooling equipment that is attached to a moses basket and it meant the couple could hold Luna-Mai, take photos, and keep her with them until they were ready to say goodbye.

'The cot meant we had time to take pictures and our friends and family got to come and meet her,' Miss Gooch said.

'We had two days with her and it was lovely.'

Without the cot, the couple would only have been able to spend one hour with their daughter.

Despite their devastation, the parents raised more than £1,500 to buy a new cuddle cot and the moses basket to go with it.

The couple wanted the delivery suite to have its own cot so that anyone else suffering a similar tragedy could use it.

They presented the basket and equipment to delivery suite matron Ann Walker in the hospital's chapel gardens, watched by their family.

Ann Walker said: 'A cuddle cot is important because it allows families to spend more time with their special baby.

'This means the delivery suite has its own cuddle cot to help other families and we are very grateful.'

The family hope to continue raising money to buy the special cots for every hospital delivery suite in the country.
