Getting to know your boobs could save your life

Mollie Banham went to her local GP surgery when she found a lump on her breast, and it was thankfully nothing to worry about.

She's now a volunteer for the Coppafeel breast cancer awareness charity which urges women to constantly check their boobs for any abnormalities.

She said: 'Their message is simple, get to know your boobs and the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and it will save your life.

'People assume that a lump is the only symptom of breast cancer, when actually there are seven other symptoms that people may not know about.'

Miss Banham, who lives in Queens Close, Blakeney, added: 'I had a scare where I found something abnormal on my breast and the GP was so pleased that I checked my boobs and she said not a lot of people do. If I had not checked my boobs I would not have noticed it. It was just normal, hormonal, and it went away.'

She found out about the charity when she watched a documentary on its founder Kris, who was diagnosed at 23 - she has stage 4 and there is no cure.

She added: 'It's scary to thank that I'm that age now. I did not know that you had to check your boobs. I was so affected by it. '

She's doing a six-day trek in Romania to raise money for Coppafeel from July 22.

She added: 'I know I am doing this life-changing challenge but it's also getting the message out.

'We will be walking eight hours a day. There will be 60 of us, including Tom Fletcher from McFly and the presenter, Lisa Snowdon. It's in Transylvania so we will visit Dracula's castle. Everyone needs to raise a minimum of £2200.'

Miss Banham, who is single and works in sales at H Samuel jewellers in Norwich, is also taking part in a masquerade ball with friends on May 19 at Fakenham FC, raising money and awareness for Coppafeel and Jo's Cervical Cancer trust.
