Further tributes have been paid to the 25-year-old Lowestoft man who died in a car crash as he was driving to work.
Daniel Casteleiro, of Payne Street, died when the Renault Clio he was driving crashed on Parkhill, Oulton at about 8.25am on Saturday, as he was driving to Blundeston. As friends and people who knew Mr Casteleiro continued to pay tribute to him, it emerged his death and the death of another Suffolk man at the weekend meant the number of road fatalities this year had already surpassed the whole of 2013 for the county.
Among the tributes from Mr Casteleiro's friends was one from James Martin, which said: 'Daniel, all I can say mate is I was one of the lucky ones who got to know you for the last few years. Feel so proud to call you a friend. Everyone who knew you will never forget you.'
Another comment from someone who knew the 25-year-old was from Jan Perring. It said: 'Daniel was such a fun loving guy, never a bad word said about him.
'I will cherish all our memories we had together. God bless you.' Mr Casteleiro's family had issued a statement which described him as 'being honest, loyal, such a trusting young man' who 'had a heart of gold and wore it on his sleeve'.
He was the 25th person to die on Suffolk's roads this year and on Saturday night Dominic Davies, 22, of Grundisburgh, near Ipswich, became the 26th when he died after his Ford Fiesta left the road at Letheringham.
Last year in Suffolk, 25 people died as a result of road collisions.
Tim Passmore, Suffolk's Police and Crime Commissioner, said measures to reduce the number of road deaths in the county would be 'top of the agenda' at a meeting of Suffolk Roadsafe partnership on September 4. He said: 'This is becoming a major problem in Suffolk and we have to confront it collectively and as a matter of urgency if we are to maintain our reputation as a safe county to travel in.'
As well as 25 road deaths, there were 352 people seriously injured on the county's roads last year.
In Norfolk in 2013, 40 people died and by the first week of this month there had been 27 fatalities this year.
