Norfolk and Waveney's 182,000 people who are affected by a neurological condition are being invited to share their experiences of health and social care services.

Through discussion groups and an online survey, patients living with a neurological condition and their carers are being asked to join in the audit of neurological services across Norfolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

It aims to establish a clear picture of care for complex, long-term conditions like MS, Parkinson's and motor neurone disease, evaluating current health and social care services for people with 20 different neurological conditions, and making recommendations to improve the quality of care.

The work is being led by a local neurology network and project managed by Neurological Commissioning Support (NCS), a unique non-profit commissioning support organisation partnered with the MS Society, MND Association, Parkinson's UK and Epilepsy Society.

NCS gives expert support to health and social care commissioners so that people with a neurological condition have access to the right services, in the right place, at the right time.

Kecia Harris, chairman of the neurology network, said: 'The Norfolk and Waveney Neurology Network brings together people with neurological conditions, charities, and health and social care professionals to improve neurology services in Norfolk.

'The network has helped to get three extra neurology nurses in post and we hope to further improve services in future. We feel that auditing current services is an essential step in doing this.

'We'd like to encourage anyone living with a neurological condition to contribute to this audit, either by completing the survey or attending a discussion group, so your views can be heard.'

As well as holding a range of face-to-face discussion groups across all areas of Norfolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney from September 25 to 28 September, the neurology network and NCS will also consult widely with health and social care professionals through meetings on October 8 and 9. There will also be virtual patient consultation through social networking sites and a questionnaire at www.surveymonkey.com/s/norfolkneuro. A paper version of the questionnaire is available on request.

A feedback event on November 27, will share the findings of the audit with local patients and key health and social care professionals.
