Residents are being urged to have their say on a new design guide for developers in South Norfolk.

When it is finally agreed, the Place-Making Guide will be used by South Norfolk Council to make sure developers produce high-quality, well-designed and sustainable buildings.

A series of public consultation events will take place in May.

Derek Blake, South Norfolk Design Champion, is calling on residents to get involved and to help shape the final document.

'This Guide, currently in draft, and the principles set out within it will be material considerations in the determination of planning applications. This is our way of ensuring we build a better future by design.

'We are determined to see that South Norfolk's unique heritage and environment are enhanced and protected by the buildings we see coming forward in planning applications. There has rarely been a more important time to have a Guide like this. And while we would want to encourage innovation and the use of renewable technology, we don't want our new housing developments to look like they could be anywhere,' he said.

Exhibitions will be held at the Diss Corn Hall from 3pm to 7pm on May 3, at the South Norfolk Council offices in Long Stratton between May 8 and 11, and between 3pm and 7pm on May 10 at Wymondham Central Hall.

Consultations will also be held in the Costessey Centre between 3pm and 7pm on May 4, the Patteson Room and Club in Cringleford between 3pm and 7pm on May 14 and Loddon Library on May 17.
