A haulage company in north Norfolk is stepping up a gear by helping out the flood victims in the North of the country.

Saxon Motors, in North Walsham are calling upon the help of the locals to fill a 45ft trailer with donations to help those affected.

John Englestone, 48, from Smallburgh and owner of Saxon Motors, said: 'One of my drivers wives said she wanted to help send some stuff and then we decided to take them ourselves and it just escalated.

'It was a moment of madness really. We just wanted to so something to help, we were watching it on the telly and wanted to help out on our end down here.'

Mr Englestone will be driving drove fellow employee, Ken Henry, 51 at four tomorrow morning to York.

Many locals have flocked to help after seeing their announcement on Facebook, with some even offering unwanted hoovers and fridges.

On board the truck are many clothes, bed linens and even mattresses.

Mr Englestone added: 'It's been amazing what people have donated and how many have helped. People have even been buying new stuff, we've had people going to supermarkets and coming back with trollies full of stuff to give.'

The two men are meeting with a charity group in York who are helping the flood victims in the area.
