A controversial Norfolk principal credited with 'transforming' a failing school is to share his experiences in a talk at a prestigious political venue.

Barry Smith, who took over at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy last year, will be speaking about his turnaround of the school at the House of Lords on Monday, November 12.

A notification of the event from organiser the Conservative Education Society tells guests to 'prepare for a dynamic and challenging evening'.

Mr Smith was recently interviewed by the Times Educational Supplement (TES) about his time at Charter Academy, in which he said the school – which merged with Trafalgar College in September – had been 'reclaimed' from 'chaos'.

He enforced a strict behaviour and uniform policy which met mixed responses from parents – but exam results at the school have improved over his tenure.
