A LIFEBOAT gave a historic seafaring relative a helping hand into Great Yarmouth in preparation for the town's annual Maritime Festival.

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Lifeboat crews volunteered to tow the tall ship Tres Hombres into the inner harbour and up-river and helped moor it with the help of the auxiliary vessel.

Vessels are not allowed to enter the harbour unless assisted by power and the Tres Hombres will be towed out again by the same method on Monday.

The exercise also helped train the crew who will be on hand with the lifeboat during the festival, which runs over Saturday and Sunday. The lifesaving vessel will be moored throughout the festival at Riverside, Gorleston.
