A major new air show for East Anglia has been cleared for take-off with the backing of a national holiday company.

Leading UK family holiday company Haven, which operates 36 holiday parks across the UK, will be the main sponsor of the Great Yarmouth event taking place in June 2017.

The resort is staging its first ever four-day air show from June 15 to 18, creating an event which will be one of the biggest in the region – attracting up to 300,000 people and an estimated £10m boost for the economy.

It is being run by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Limited (GYTABIA) whose board has now given the go-ahead for the ground-breaking event. The festival has been buoyed by UK-wide holiday giants Haven agreeing to be the main presenting sponsor, with major branding presence before and during the event.

The sponsorship continues the holiday company's involvement in the local community as Haven operates four parks in the Great Yarmouth area – Seashore Holiday Park at the North Denes, Caister-on-Sea Holiday Park, Wild Duck Holiday Park at Belton and Hopton Holiday Village.

Haven Seashore's general manager spokesman Nathan Race said: 'Haven is really proud to be supporting the first ever Great Yarmouth Air Show. We look forward to being part of something that will benefit the local community and be enjoyed by all generations.'

GYTABIA vice-chairman Barry Coleman said: 'The air show steering group has been working hard on plans for this huge new event which will place Great Yarmouth firmly in the spotlight and attract a wide new audience of visitors to discover all that the area has to enjoy. We're delighted that Haven Holidays see the potential of the event and are willing to put their name to it.'

The Haven Great Yarmouth Air Show will feature military and civilian displays over two evening and two afternoon sessions – with grandstand views from all along the Golden Mile seafront.

Show director Asa Morrison said the show aimed to be one of the UK's top five seafront air shows within five years – putting it alongside established events at Bournemouth, Sunderland and Eastbourne.

He said: 'Securing a prestigious national holiday company such as Haven as our main sponsor is a big step forward for the air show.

'The show is beginning to take shape. We are working with a number of partners, and talking to many military and civilian display teams, to deliver a great event.'

Ian Hacon, the show's director of corporate affairs and sponsorship, said: 'I am delighted that a great national tourism brand with local presence has joined us as the presenting sponsor.

'Haven are all about families and so is the air show. We are delighted to have them as part of our family.'

'We are also close to securing major support from a number of other key sponsors and hope to announce more on this soon. If you would like your organisation to be involved please do get in touch.'
