The return to Great Yarmouth town centre of a national name has been welcomed by a council leader, as the future of the former BHS site was revealed.
This week, it emerged that discount brand Poundstretcher had bought the Regent Road unit and would be opening its doors within the next five weeks.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council Graham Plant said he hoped the store's arrival would prove the tip of the iceberg for new stores moving in.
He said: 'Filling empty shops is always the aim - used shops are better than empty ones. However, at the moment large companies are favouring retail parks, so it is positive to see one moving to the town centre.'
It comes as another of the town centre's empty units also found a buyer, with commercial property agent Bycroft confirming the former Select on King Street had been sold.
Director Daniel Bycroft said: 'It has been bought by a Norwich-based developer who will be looking into converting the upstairs into four apartments, while finding tenants to use the ground floor for either retail or office space.'
However, two years after being vacated, the King Street M&S is still without an occupant.
A spokesman for M&S said: 'We are continuing to market the property on King Street and will keep the community updated.'
