Hundreds of mourners paid a final tribute to Norwich nightclub owner Ibish Peri at his funeral in northern Cyprus.

Mr Peri, 35, was found dead earlier this month at his home above Bished nightclub on Prince of Wales Road in the city.

His body was then taken to Lapta, the village in northern Cyprus where Mr Peri's father, Steve, grew up.

The funeral service took place on Thursday at the Haydar Pashazade Mehmet Bey Mosque and was attended by friends and family from the area, along with loved ones from Norwich, Chelmsford, London and Birmingham.

An Imam said prayers, after which Mr Peri's body was driven in a Cypriot hearse to the local cemetery, where he was laid to rest.

The family said they were pleased to have so much support from local mourners, as well from people who had travelled from the UK.

Mr Peri was buried next to his grandfather, who vanished on Christmas morning 54 years ago during conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

It was only two years ago, after a Greek Cypriot made a deathbed confession and shared what had happened, that the family were able to recover his body and have him buried in the cemetery.

Tributes to Ibish have been pouring in since his death on September 11, with his mother Dawn describing him as the 'prince of Prince of Wales Road', and bouquets of flowers piling up outside Bished last week, as well as cards containing touching messages and balloons.

Speaking at a candlelit vigil in his memory in Norwich, she said: 'I don't want anyone to go through what my son went through. He kept it silent and hid it so well through his smiles and partying. That is how you guys do it. 'But please come from behind that smile and show us how you are feeling. If you have a male friend, pick up that phone and ask them how they are.

'Make sure they are okay, make sure they talk and please don't let anyone else go through what we are going through tonight.'

Mr Peri owned the venue chain Code Red Promotions, which runs Mercy, Flaunt, Lace and Bished, formerly Rocco's.
