Delighted children with parents in tow climbed aboard the miniature railway to help raise money for a hospice appeal for young people.

Eaton Park Miniature Railway was collecting funds for the East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) nook appeal, with all fare revenue donated to the appeal. Mike Fordham, who came up with the idea for the day, said: 'We're absolutely delighted to be donating the sum of £831 to the EACH 'Nook' Appeal.

'We would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who came along for a ride today,' he added.

Paul Reed, duty officer for the day, said: 'We are thrilled that the day was successful and that the weather was kind to us. We have all had great fun running this day for EACH and I know park visitors enjoyed it too'

The popular Feldbahn loco, which usually runs in Northampton, was transported over to Norwich for the day to haul the trains.

Staff who run the railway hope this EACH charity day will now become a regular fixture on their calendar, along with their popular Children in Need Day.

More than 800 rides were made during the day with queues forming before the railway even opened.

Volunteers from EACH also ran a tombola stall at the Parkside Station raising yet more money.
