Former Norwich South MP Simon Wright has been appointed as the chief executive of Nelson's Journey.

Mr Wright, who lost his seat in May's election, replaces Colin Lang who is now at the helm at disability charity NANSA.

The former maths teacher joins the Little Plumstead-based bereavement charity at a time when it is continuing to see an increase in demand for the services.

In recent weeks, an unprecedented step has been taken to introduce a waiting list system for new referrals as the four full-time child bereavement support workers are unable to cope.

Mr Wright, who starts on Monday, said his first priority will be to try and secure additional funding to meet the increasing workload.

He said: 'Nelson's Journey's services are in great demand. I look forward to helping the charity achieve their vision of being able to support all bereaved children in Norfolk.'
