Former Norwich landlady meets old customer on tube

Now in her 80s, she ran the former Mitre Tavern in Earlham Road, Norwich with her husband Gordon from 1984 to 1999.

She was travelling on the underground, after watching the Charity Shield match between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley stadium, when a man sitting nearby recognised her.

She said: 'I was with my son-in-law who has been a Manchester City fan since he was a boy. Another man kept saying that he had to speak to me, and it turned out he was an old customer from the Mitre Tavern. His name was Paul Thompson.

'I did not remember him at first, but I did when he took his hat off.

'He came over and gave me a kiss and cuddle. He said I looked a million dollars and better than I did when I was in the pub. I told him I thought I looked good then, as well. We chatted away and it was quite funny. The Mitre used to be one of the most popular pubs in Norwich in those days.'

Mrs Robertson also had her photograph taken with former Man City player Gary Owen, Sky Sports presenter Nick Collins, and she visited the exclusive Club Wembley invitation lounge.

Now living in the Golden Triangle in Norwich, during her time at the Mitre she was known affectionately as 'Mother'.

Her career spanned many pubs, but perhaps her most memorable moment was when she pulled pints behind Coronation Street's Rovers Return – with the 'customers' including Elsie Tanner and Len Fairclough. It was part of a special prize after being chosen as landlady of the year in Northampton.
