The first ever Beccles Craft and Homemade Market was held at the Beccles Station Community Rooms, showcasing the finest artisan produce and crafts in Beccles and the surrounding area.

Karen Warne, co-organiser of the event with Christine Pinsent, said: 'Everything is handmade by local artisans; it is a fusion of crafts and produce from the Beccles area.

'There has been a steady footfall and people are really enthusiastic in what we are doing here. Each item is unique and different- if it continues to go well we will definitely consider doing it again next year.'

She added: 'Its been lovely to bring life back to the station, when you come by train the first thing you see of Beccles is the station so we wanted to give a flavour and a good reflection of what the town is about.'

Held on Saturday and Sunday, stalls ranged from jewellery, pottery and Christmas themed gifts to yarn spinning demonstrations courtesy of Rosemary Brambley which proved particularly popular with youngsters.

The fair was also raising funds for Beccles Station Community Rooms, an important facility for the community of Beccles, with various activity groups including yoga, pilates and children's play groups using the venue.

One stall holder, Pauline Wielopolski of Pojangles Gemstone Jewellery and Gifts, said: 'This is the best crafts fair I have been to and I have been to quite a few- but this is definitely my favourite. I have been really, really pleased with what I have sold and have enjoyed meeting lots of different people.'

Christine Pinsent added: 'It has been a fantastic first event and we have been more than overwhelmed by the response we have had.

'All our store holders were very happy and although a final total raised is not yet known I think we have raised a good sum for Beccles Station Community Rooms and Help for Heroes.'
