Firefighters were called in to check the safety of two container drums that washed up on the beach at Hunstanton.

The two drum-like containers exposed by the tide on the beach were reported to HM Coastguard at 11.38am today (October 20).

Fears that the containers on the beach near the town, close to Alive Leisure-Oasis, could contain hazardous substances prompted coastguard to call in fire crews.

One of the drums was reported as being split.

Four Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service appliances from King's Lynn and one from Heacham attended the cordoned off area of the beach. They carried out safety checks and assisted with making the discovery safe.
