A woman and her two dogs were rescued from a vehicle after it got stuck in flood water.

A fire crew from Wisbech was called to the flooded Welney Wash Road on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border at around 11am yesterday morning (Sunday, April 15).

A flood alert by the Environment Agency states the Welney Causeway A1101 is closed in both directions due to water levels remaining high following recent rainfall.

Despite no rain forecast over the next few days the river levels remain high. Motorists are being urged not to attempt to cross the Welney Wash Road.

Heavy rainfall causes the River Ouse level at Welney Causeway to rise and spill over onto the flood plains, which were built to store excess water centuries ago.
