Fire breaks out at Wisbech sawmill
Fire has broken out at a sawmill near Wisbech town centre.Crews are on their way to Nene Milling, on Brigstock Road, off Nene Parade.
Fire crews from across the Fens are fighting a blaze at a sawmill in Wisbech today.
Workers were evacuated from Nene Milling, on Brigstock Road, when the alarm was raised at 11.30am.
Fire in machinery is believed to have ignited an industrial hopper full of wood shavings.
Emma Cousins, from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, said four crews were at thscene this afternoon.
“When they arrived all workers had been evacuated from the building, which was heavily smoke logged,” she said.
“The factory is a wood processing plant, which is a single storey portable framed building about 80m by 40m.

“The fire was in the extractor unit and had spread to inside the plant through connecting metal chutes containing wood shavings.
“Crews used two hose reels, one jet, four breathing apparatus teams to tackle the fire from the inside and outside of the building.
“They also used the turntable ladder to gain access to the hopper unit. We still have four pumps at this incident.”
