Fire investigators are tonight trying to establish the cause of a blaze which left a home severely damaged.
It broke out in a house in Manor Farm Gardens, in Hilgay, around 3.45pm today.
An elderly couple, who escaped unharmed, are being comforted by neighbours.
Six appliances from West Norfolk and Cambridgeshire were sent to the scene of the fire, which took more than an hour to extinguish and burned through the roof at the rear of the house.
Station manager Neil Richardson, from King's Lynn north fire and rescue station, said: 'We had quite a substantial fire in a detached premises. We've had six appliances here.
'We committed four breathing apparatus into the building to extinguish a fire on the first floor. We're unaware of the cause, a fire investigation team are on their way down.'
An ambulance service spokesman said: We were called to reports of a patient with breathing difficulties in Hilgay, Downham Market, today at 3.45pm.
'One rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene to treat one patient, who did not require hospital treatment.'
