Bitterly cold temperatures and the first snow of the winter could not stop the people of Pakefield from gathering around their community tree to launch the festive celebrations.

Children from the early years' classes at Pakefield Primary School braved slushy conditions to bring homemade baubles to decorate the Christmas tree at The Terminus before the arrival of Santa to switch on the lights.

As well as bringing decorations for the tree, many of the children also brought gifts of food for the special foodbank collection before visiting Santa's workshop at the nearby Tramway Hotel.

Suffolk County councillor Melanie Vigo Di Gallidoro said: 'It's brilliant to see everyone enjoying the Pakefield Christmas celebrations and it was good to see a community Christmas tree in Pakefield again.'

A Carol-athon will take place on Saturday, December 16 outside the Co-operative Foodstore in Pakefield with sponsored carol singing and music from 11am to 5pm.
