Winterlight is a collaboration between the town's library, Halesworth Millennium Green and the Oxblood Mollies and is designed to bring together the community in celebration of the change in seasons.

It will begin at noon on Sunday, February 12, when the children's club at the library make lanterns to display, before later in the afternoon the Oxblood Mollies, hosts of the Halesworth Day of Dance, will perform.

Between 5pm and 6pm the Mollies will lead a lantern-lit procession from the library, through the town to Folly Meadow at Millennium Green. A star lantern will be hoisted up and the lights on Willow Wherry - a town landmark, will be switched on, with bonfires to follow.

Sal Jenkinson, a trustee of Halesworth Millennium Green said: 'It came about because the library is very community minded and they were really interested in doing something fun in the middle of winter and they felt that the green would be a great place to do it.

'We got together and did something last year for the first time and built it around Valentines Day, but this year we have made it much more simple.

'We are hoping to produce some quite nice lighting effects, which we are working on at the moment.'

Ms Jenkinson said they were also going to present a huge wickerwork puppet with wings that moved that had been produced by people attending the library, as well as making a colourful puppet which would be placed on a bicycle with its legs strapped to the pedals.

She said: 'It's just a nice way to enjoy the dark and to get people together on the green, because although a lot of people know about the green, lots of people don't and its nice to show what a fantastic area it is.'

Participants are encouraged to take a light, a hot drink, wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes. For more details call the library on 01986 875095, or visit thegreen@halesworth.net
