Scores of families were evacuated after a car hit a house and ruptured a gas main in Gorleston on Saturday evening.
Police said the accident happened at about 7.45pm in High Street and that householders in within a 200m radius were evacuated to a local pub and the Marina Centre in Yarmouth.
Workers from the gas board worked for nearly and an hour to mend the gas main while structural engineers were called in to assess the damage to the house.
A spokesman for Norfolk police said the gas board declared the scene safe at just after 9.30pm and the road was re-opened at 10pm.
He added that officers arrested a male at the scene of the crash.
