Environmentally-minded residents of Thorpe Market, near Cromer, have helped raise more than £1,200 for their village church, by filling car park recycling banks with around 22.5 tons of glass and waste paper.
Historic St Margaret's Church, which was built in 1796, has run a paper recycling scheme since the 1980s. It also has a Salvation Army clothing skip and hosts a book exchange, with the church librarian sorting donated titles to be sold, borrowed or swapped.
The church, which runs a series of 'snowdrop Sundays' every February, is home to Cantamus Community Choir and hosts regular art exhibitions and music events, is renowned for its churchyard wildflower management scheme, which has won both the Barclay/Norfolk Wildlife Churchyard Conservation award and the Campaign to Protect Rural England conservation award.
