Engineers are hopeful the facade of a 17th-century property which has been ravaged by fire can be saved.
The front of Grade I-Listed Cupola House, which is home to Strada restaurant, in The Traverse, Bury St Edmunds, is no longer in immediate danger of collapse after a damaged area was removed on Monday night.
The property has suffered major structural collapse due to the blaze which began just before 9pm on Saturday in the basement. Demolition professionals worked into the night using a 40-tonne long-reach crane to pick apart the unstable areas of the building's front wall.
The remainder of the front of the building can now be secured with scaffolding and the recovery and restoration operation can begin.
