An elderly woman was the victim of a distraction burglary in Honingham, when a man forced his way into her house and said his ball had gone in to her back garden.
It happened yesterday between 5.50pm and 6.05pm at a property in Mill Lane.
Police said a man knocked on the woman's door and started looking for the ball.
She next saw him in the living room and he had two handbags in his hand.
He ran out of the property into Mill Lane before going along The Street.
Police advise people to be cautious about letting anyone unknown to them into their properties. If in doubt, refuse them entry and contact police.
Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact DC Steve Moseley at Dereham police station.
