The well-known headteacher of a Sprowston school has announced he is stepping down after 12 years.
Andrew John, headteacher at Sprowston Community Academy, wrote to parents and carers to say he would be leaving the school at the end of the school year.
He said he believed the academy would go from 'strength to strength' with the Right for Success Trust, which it joined earlier this year, which he said had the vision of 'improving life chances of all students' at its heart.
'The academy is in aspirational hands for continued success,' he added. Mr John, who said he planned to stay in education, said: 'I know I am biased but so much of our academy is absolutely fabulous.
'I am very proud of our fantastic teaching, pastoral and support teams who have helped the students achieve very good academic results at GCSE and A level.'
He said, as head, he had prioritised promoting social and cultural opportunities, particularly through fundraising.
So far, he said, they had raised almost £130,000, 'had some fun along the way in doing so', and helped students 'understand a bit better the complex world in which we all live'.
'I am ever so proud of our vibrant community where every success, no matter how small, is celebrated,' he said in the letter. 'We are proud of the students' achievements in so many areas of school life such as in the arts, sports and other extra-curricular areas.
'Over 270 new students will be joining the school in September and I am sure that they will contribute to the academy's continued success.
'It has been a privilege to serve the Sprowston and north Norwich communities as headteacher and I have no doubt that the school will go from strength to strength with my successor and the Right for Success Trust.'
He thanked parents for their support and wished children 'good health and happiness'.
An advert for the new headteacher was posted earlier this week, with a start date of September or next January.
It says the academy is 'embarking on an exciting new chapter in its development and the successful candidate will play an instrumental part in this'.
Darren Vertigan, chair of the governing body, extended 'sincere thanks and best wishes' to Mr John and praised his 'commitment and durability'.
