Packed houses at North Walsham's Atrium greeted North Walsham High School's production of Lionel Bart's Oliver!
With a host of popular musical numbers such as Food, Glorious Food; You've Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two; As Long As He Needs Me; and Oom Pah Pah!, a spectacular set – complete with three real coffins – and a large cast including a Staffordshire terrier called Millie, the audience were well entertained, and showed their appreciation loudly at the end of each of the four performances.
Based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, the musical tells the tale of an orphan boy and his survival against the odds, set among the colourful characters of Charles Dickens' Victorian London, including Fagin, the Artful Dodger and Nancy. It has been a favourite since it was first performed in the West End in 1960.
North Walsham High School head of drama Victoria Christie, who directed the production, said: 'When you are performing a show which everyone knows, you have to be spot-on. I am really proud of all of the cast and crew, whose two terms of hard work really paid off with four fabulous performances, played to large and appreciative audiences.
'Despite all of the nerves, it has been a great experience for everyone involved, and hopefully it will inspire one or two of them to take performance to the next level.'
The production also played a matinee performance for students at Millfield and North Walsham Junior School.
