Children at a Norwich primary school have translated their passion for reading into a fundraising success.
Magdalen Gates Primary School in Bull Close Road is taking part in a sponsored readathon, which aims to get more children interested in reading by encouraging them to read anything from comic books to classics.
It is running in partnership with charity Read for Good, which raises funds to purchase books and storytellers for children's hospitals.
Christian Hamment, reading lead at Magdalen Gates Primary, said the school hoped to raise £50 per class from the readathon – which would mean a total of £300.
'The children have really enjoyed taking part in the readathon, especially being able to read what they want and raise money for a worthy cause,' he said. 'It has been successful in engaging the children in home reading and we hope to encourage this post readathon.'
Running a readathon through Read for Good also gives the school the chance to win a visit from adventurer Bear Grylls.
The school will calculate its fundraising total once children's sponsorship forms are returned after the half term holiday.
