An Australian head teacher travelled more than 9,000 miles to see how a Norfolk school uses iPads - after reading about it in the EDP.

Christine Reilly, head of Hunter River High School in New South Wales, was looking into the use of technology in teaching when she stumbled across a story on the EDP website about Howard Junior School.

She said: 'I have an interest in how technology is used for teaching and when I searched on Google Howard Junior popped up at the top.

'I have been really impressed by what they are doing here.

'The teachers in particular are using it not only for giving work but also for assessing the pupils and being able to see instant feedback.'

Under the leadership of head Greg Hill and assistant head Jason Harper Howard Junior School became one of the first in the area to supply iPads to every pupil.

Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard which can be linked the tablet computers and teachers can easily monitor each pupils work from their own computer.

Mrs Reilly added: 'The children are doing their work and they are enjoying it and that is the biggest battle in education.

'I like how they tailor the apps for students and their needs.'

Mrs Reilly's trip, which also included Sweden and Finland, is part of her school's sponsorship from software giant Adobe.

She added that with the state of technology it is even easier for schools to forge global links.

Mr Hill said: 'It is great to have these global links.

Other schools can learn from us and we can learn from them.

'We have shown Christine the how we use the technology throughout the day in all subjects and we have had British afternoon tea with cream and scones.'

The school has invested around £30,000 in 120 iPad Minis.

Mr Hill said: 'Howard is a trail blazer and I think it is good for people to see the success of a school in this area.

'Howard has a high proportion of free school meals and pupils with SEN requirements and it just shows what you can do.'

Mr Hill and Mr Harper are off to London to Apple's UK headquarters for a technology in education conference.

Howard Junior is one of a select few invited to the event.
