Summer is upon us: the time of year when your parents or teachers suggest that maybe it's time that you found a summer job.

Schools dedicate session after session to guide the construction of CVs and cover letters, but rarely cover how to succeed at a job interview.

As so many young people will be vying for the same types of positions, you need to stand out. Interviews are your chance to shine once your CV has been considered.

The most important thing to display is self-confidence. Provided you haven't lied on your CV or cover letter, you should feel prepared to answer any question with ease. Just be honest.

Obviously don't tell them that you lack a certain quality, but you could accentuate areas where you would like development. Your body language also counts. Be aware of how you are presenting yourself. Don't slouch, and put confidence in your shoulders.

Then it comes to the all-important outfit. It is a well-known fact that jeans and tracksuits don't go down well at an interview. It is essential that you dress to impress, as the saying goes.

Men should make sure that they wear smart trousers and a shirt which could accommodate a tie.

Ladies should wear a blouse and trousers/skirt or a modest dress.

Basically, you should wear clothes which would be acceptable in an office environment, whatever the job. They give the best impression of you.

Honesty and confidence is key. Remember to relax, dress smartly and arrive slightly early. You should be on your way to securing that job.
