Parents can sign up to free courses to help them support their children through education.

Norfolk Community Learning Services (NCLS) hopes the courses will help parents brush up on their own English and maths skills at the same time.

The classroom-based sessions, which are taught in two-hour blocks over a five-week period, will enable parents to learn how subjects are taught in school and give them a chance to meet teachers.

More than 125 families attended taster sessions at two Great Yarmouth schools.

Stephen Astley, executive principal at Great Yarmouth Primary Academy, said: '[The school] is in one of the bottom 2pc of neighbourhoods for deprivation nationally, which can have a huge effect on the children we serve. More parents coming into school has been an incredibly positive experience and it makes such a difference by helping them work with us to support their children's learning.'
