Young people interested in a career in the film industry are being offered a chance to learn about everything from script to screen.

Culture Works East has teamed up with the British Film Institute (BFI) and young filmmakers' fund Firstlight to offer a free one-day event called Progress into Film.

It will take place on March 6 at the Open Youth Venue at Bank Plain, Norwich.

School and college groups from Norfolk and Suffolk can attend from 10am to 2pm with anyone aged 13 to 25 invited along from 3.30pm to 7pm.

Culture Works' artistic director Elli Chapman said: 'We are really excited about this event which gives young people access to a wide range of industry professionals locally and nationally.

'It will give practical hands-on opportunities to work alongside these practitioners and find out about how they got into the industry and all the top tips and advice that no book could teach.'

Supported by the European Social Fund, Acer and the Norfolk and Norwich Festival Bridge organisation, the event will be jam-packed with opportunities to get insider information and tricks of the trade from leading industry professionals.

BBC and Channel 4 director Max Fisher, who has been working with Culture Works and Norfolk and Suffolk young people as a BFI Film Academy mentor, said: 'There's loads of raw talent in Norfolk – young film makers need support, challenge and encouragement as well as the belief that it is possible to break into the business and eventually make a living out of it.'

The day includes screening and workshops by BFI Film Academy members and Firstlight young filmmakers, free workshops, master classes and one-to-one surgeries.
