Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 52pc (45pc in 2012)

'This is a very pleasing set of results. There is now much greater expectations of students so this 7pc increase in students who achieved at least five A*s to Cs including English and maths is most welcome. It is down to the hard work of the students and staff and the great support from parents and carers.

'We expect great things of our students here and they have, again, performed extremely well. We have plans in place to improve results even further next year and further again the year after that and we are in a strong position to be able to do that.' Alastair Ogle, head teacher.

• ARCHBISHOP SANCROFT HIGH, HARLESTON

Unable to give out its overall results due to 'a significant challenge to exam boards in some key subjects'.

Head Richard Cranmer added: 'We are delighted with the performance of many of our students and there are some fantastic individual successes. As the only Church of England High School in Norfolk we are particularly proud with the achievement of students in RS – 94pc achieving an A or A*.'

• CAISTER HIGH

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 42pc (46pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 61.5pc (61.49pc in 2012)

'We are disappointed in the fall of headline figures of A* to C grades including English and Maths. This is as a direct result of altered controlled assessment modes and adjustments to boundaries that seem unique to schools favouring the Welsh board in English this year, similar to those schools who used the AQA board last year.' - George Denby, headteacher.

• CITY ACADEMY

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 22pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 33pc

'Our GCSE results have been hit hard this year by a significant proportion of our students' grades coming down on the wrong side of the C/D boundary in English, with a quarter gaining Ds. This is a real disappointment, especially because we have had good news in other areas including an increase in those achieving C and above in maths and our first ever students achieving the English Baccalaureate standard. Improving our English results is our top priority and we have already taken actions to bring us up to where we need to be.' - David Brunton, principal

• CITY OF NORWICH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 59pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 74pc

Headteacher Jim Nixon: 'We are very proud of our students and there have been some exceptional individual performances. We are very pleased that initial indications show our overall value added has increased, particularly with upper ability students where over 90 pupils have achieved at least 3A*s/As. Once again we believe our results are testimony to our approach of promoting rigorous GCSE examinations, particularly in the current national context of significant changes in the exam system. I would like to thank the students for all their hard work, the staff and governors for their dedication and the parents for their ongoing support.'

• CLIFF PARK HIGH

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 38.3pc (57.4pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 73.6pc (73.1pc in 2012)

'However, over 70% achieved 5 A* - C grades, comparing favourably with other schools with many students achieving highly encouraging results. Particular congratulations go to Charlotte Howard, Shona Hepworth and Matthew Wigmore who each achieved 14 grade A/A*s.

'It is pleasing to report that 66% of pupils achieved a grade C or above in Maths, above the national benchmark for the second consecutive year.' - Rob Sherington, headteacher

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 75pc (64pc in 2012)

Headteacher Penny Bignell said: 'We are really delighted with the upward trend that Cromer Academy has achieved. We are celebrating our best ever results. We have noticed the toughening up of marking in the three core subjects. It has affected us more this year. There have been some good success stories with children who receive free school meals. We have got to keep moving forward and keep improving each year. We are proud of everyone.'

• DEREHAM NEATHERD HIGH

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 57pc (54pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 67pc (65pc in 2012)

'Our results improved slightly from last year's. A low mark in English pulled down the overall figure, and we will be lodging an appeal. We have really great results and had lots of happy faces at the school. But the results mask all of the extremely good progress from all of the good students and don't reflect the brilliant work the school has been doing.' Peter Devonish, headteacher.

• DEREHAM NORTHGATE HIGH

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 70pc (73pc in 2012)

• ELY COLLEGE

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 70pc (70pc in 2012)

'We are delighted for these students, who all worked extremely hard for the results they have collected today.

'With universities and employers saying that they consider GCSE results as a key indicator of a candidate's potential, these students have set themselves up for future success.

'It is their hard work, together with that of all our staff, that was recognised by Ofsted in the spring when they judged us to be a good school.' – Catherine Jenkinson-Dix, head teacher

• FAKENHAM HIGH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 67pc

'We are absolutely delighted with these results which are the best in the history of the school by some margin. We have had a 15pc rise on last year's results. In March of this year Ofsted graded our College as Good - these results show the High School is matching this standard. Well done to our hard-working and motivated students and real thanks to the staff at the school who have worked incredibly hard, with students and parents, for these results. I am so proud of all the people involved in these results and confident that we can do even better next year and beyond' – Matthew Parr-Burman, headteacher

• FLEGG HIGH SCHOOL, MARTHAM

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 58pc (54pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 67pc (70pc in 2012)

'We are delighted that so many of our students have achieved excellent results, rewarding their hard work and commitment and recognising the support of their parents and all the staff and governors in the school. We are very pleased that our results are better than last year and that our key headline figure of 5A*-C (inc Eng and Maths) has increased by 7pc from 2012. This will provide a firm foundation for further necessary improvements in the coming years. We wish all our students every success as they head on to their next challenge.' - Dr Simon Fox, principal.

• FRAMINGHAM EARL HIGH

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 64pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 72pc

Headteacher Nicola Furneaux: 'We are a little disappointed with these headline figures, having achieved consistently higher outcomes over a number of years. However, many students have achieved superb results, particularly at the top end, with almost a quarter of all grades at A or A*. Our E-Bacc achievement, at 38%, is particularly pleasing and shows the very large proportion of our students who are successful against this academically challenging target.

• GRESHAM'S, HOLT

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 94pc (97.2pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 94.8pc (99.1pc in 2012)

The Headmaster of Gresham's School, Philip John, stated that he was very pleased with this year's GCSE results. An increase in the number of students attaining the top grades at A* to B to 76.8pc was particularly encouraging. Mr John went on to say that the results were a credit to all the pupils who had clearly worked very hard. Two pupils, Esme Haywood and Grace Pitkethly, achieved the very highest grades in all 12 subjects they sat and a large number of other students made enormous progress and achieved excellent results.

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 69pc

John Catton, Consultant Head, said: 'After the disappointment of last year, our figure of 57pc A*-C, including English and Maths, represents a 14% uplift. This is a most welcome step forward and I congratulate the students (and their parents) and staff who secured this improvement. That said, we aspire to significantly higher attainment in the future – which we will achieve!'

• HETHERSETT OLD HALL

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 100pc

Stephen Crump, headteacher, said: 'The school is grateful to the hard work of the teachers and the dedication of its pupils that have allowed Year 11 to gain an excellent set of results. However, because of the frequent changes to the examinations system, the school is actively investigating IGCSE specifications to enable our dedicated pupils to realise their potential in examinations that enjoy continuity and a well-tried format.'

• HEWETT SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 42pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: unavailable

Rob Anthony, Associated Principal, said: ''We're pleased but also disappointed. Pass rates are the same in both English and Maths, but the amount of students passing both is down. We're unsure if this has anything to with changes nationally.'

• HOBART HIGH, Loddon

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 59pc (57pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 72pc (70pc in 2012)

We are delighted to return to best ever outcomes and the results we have received for our Year 10 students in matchs shows that we are on track to improve yet again next year.

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 68.8pc (62pc in 2012)

'Results are up on last year, so it is pleasing that the school is moving in the right direction. Some students have done incredibly well, and our star performer was Amelia Lambert who got nine A*s. I believe we have bucked the trend in maths and sciences, where results have improved this year. They have been given a big focus at the school, as they are important subjects. We were determined to improve results this year, and we have managed to do that through hard work of students and staff.' Jeremy Nicholls, headteacher.

• LONG STRATTON HIGH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 63pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 84pc

This is the third consecutive year we've managed to get 84pc of our pupils to attain at least five top grades. 'I'd like to offer my thanks to the students for their hard work, their parents for their support and my colleagues and governors who have worked extremely hard this year.'

• MARSHLAND HIGH SCHOOL, WEST WALTON

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 58pc (59pc in 2012)

'We are thrilled that the number of students attaining the 'gold standard' of 5 or more A* - C including English and maths has improved so much again this year, as this is the standard that is so important in enabling students to get a job or a place on a further education course.

'My congratulations go to all the students who have worked so hard to get these excellent and well-deserved results, and my thanks go to all the staff and parents who have supported them so well too.'

Elizabeth Dormor, headteacher

• MILDENHALL COLLEGE ACADEMY

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 45pc (34pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 86pc (94pc in 2012)

Ms Susan Byles, Principal at Mildenhall: 'I am delighted to see an excellent improvement from last year of 11% at the headline figure of 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths. However, a statistic like this on its own fails to show the progress that has been made by our students. This year the percentage of students making expected or better levels of progress between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 has risen by 25pc in English and 17pc in Maths. This represents a tremendous achievement by the students and they must be congratulated!'

• NEALE WADE ACADEMY

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 58pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 80pc

'We have achieved record-breaking results.

'This is an eight per cent increase on 2012 and, added to last year's improvement, means we have had a 16 per cent increase over two years.

'I am particularly pleased with the maths results, which improved by 10 per cent and have given us an all-time high of 68 per cent, backed by solid English results at 65 per cent.' Headteacher Jason Wing.

• NEW ECCLES HALL SCHOOL

Declined to give its results.

• NICHOLAS HAMOND ACADEMY, SWAFFHAM

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 46pc (41pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 68pc (64pc in 2012)

'A very delighted and determined Year group of our students produced the highest set of of GCSE results the community has experienced. Despite a turbulent secondary education, these exceptional young people rose to the challenge and showed great resilience in adapting to the many changes they faced during their senior school career. They can be extremely proud of themselves as indeed are the staff and governors. The 46pc A*-C in English and Maths we have achieved, along with the anticipated nationally-comparable 3 levels of progress in English and Maths, is indicative of the aspiration and dynamism which is the foundation of our journey to become outstanding.' Cheryl Hill, principal.

• NORTH WALSHAM HIGH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 42pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 62pc

Caroline Brooker, headteacher, said: 'Although our headline A*-C with maths and English figure is down on last year, this figure is skewed by the wideley acknowledged moving of the goalposts by the exam boards this year, and is mirrored by results at other schools. It is disappointing that statisticians are playing with children's lives in this way.

'Aside from the English results we are pleased with the overall performance, with 62pc of the year 11 group achieved five A* to C grades. Although this figure is slightly down on last year, it is in the context of a year group which joined the school below national expectations, and the overall progress has been excellent.'

• NORWICH HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 96.8pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 96.8pc

Headmaster, Jason Morrow, praised students saying, 'I congratulate the girls and staff on another very strong set of results. The proportion of A* grades is up 2pc to 39pc more than 10pc of our pupils achieved straight A*s and over 40pc of the girls secured straight A and A* grades. Once again, almost 90pc of all grades are at A* to B and such consistency of academic achievement is all the more pleasing given the uncertainty surrounding this year's GCSE results.

The current level of political pressure and meddling with the examination system can be very difficult for staff, pupils and parents and it would be good to see a little more care and caution going forward. I think those involved in the rush to reform should be a little more aware of the risk of 'unintended consequences'. I struggle to see how it is going to help raise standards or enable accountability when there are ever more variables in the system and concerns over comparability of outcomes between different types of exam and from year to year.'

• NORWICH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 100pc (100pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 100pc (100pc in 2012)

Head Master Steffan Griffiths said, 'There will be lots of happy faces among teachers, pupils and their families as these results are published, and rightly so: such results, the reward for disciplined work over many months, again place Norwich School among the very best co-educational day schools in the country. All involved deserve congratulations and the pupils can now look forward with confidence to their 6th Form careers.

I am particularly pleased with the results for this cohort because, in addition to their excellent academic performance, they have been conspicuously active outside the classroom: for example, the sports teams have been successful throughout the year and this has helped several pupils to go on to regional or international sporting recognition. The fact that these pupils have also been among our most successful GCSE candidates strengthens us in our philosophy of 'both...and' rather than 'either…or'.'

• NOTRE DAME

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 62pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 74pc

Brian Conway, headteacher, said: 'I am extremely proud of our students who have worked hard to achieve their GCSE results and wish them the very best for the future. Despite the turbulence in the current exam system, which has affected our results once again, we have had some excellent individual results and we are generally positive about the achievements of our students. I would like to thank the staff for their hard work and governors and parents for their support.

• OPEN ACADEMY

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 35pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 76pc

• REEPHAM HIGH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 56pc (60pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 76pc (75pc in 2012)

'The headline figures above do not fully reflect the achievements of Reepham students. For instance, in terms of the EBAC, (which measures pupil achievement in English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Foreign Languages), our success rate was more than twice as high as the national average. In addition, 27pc of all GCSE grades were at A* or A. In terms of progress measures which, unlike the 5A*-C figures, measure the achievements of all pupils, our students did well. We congratulate all of our Year 11 of 2013 and wish them well for the future.' Mark Farrar, principal.

• SACRED HEART CONVENT SCHOOL, SWAFFHAM

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 65pc (50pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 90.8pc (50pc in 2012)

'We are extremely pleased with the results. Last year was a really big dip – it was the first cohort of boys. This year is the second cohort of boys to reach their GCSEs, and this year was a much larger class, so the percentage works out much better. Lots of the students have got really good results and there are a lot of A*s. We have one girl, Hannah Hodges, with 11 A*s and many of her marks were 100pc.' Sister Francis Ridler, headteacher.

• SHERINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 72pc (76pc in 2012)

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: 79pc (86pc in 2012)

'Another very pleasing set of results against the national picture of core GCSE subjects becoming harder. All of the core subjects did very well with a significant increase in the percent of students achieving A* and A grades. In English (35pc), maths (31pc) and science (27pc) of students achieved these top grades. This is a tremendous achievement. I am delighted for our wonderful students. I am very proud of them and of our excellent staff'. Tim Roderick, headteacher.

• SMITHDON HIGH

Five A*-C grades, including English and Maths: 59pc

Five A*-C grades, all subjects: unavailable

'Once more the students and staff have produced a very good set of GCSE results. With 59% of our students gaining five or more GCSE's at grade C and above, including English and Mathematics, we are pleased to have established very high levels of success for the second year running. To have achieved this figure, despite warnings from examination boards, etc that marking and grade boundaries have become tougher in various subjects, is fantastic news.' Headteacher Jonathan Goodchild.
