A Norwich school has swept the board in its latest Ofsted report, being rated 'outstanding' in every category.

Trowse Primary School, for ages four to 11, was given the rating by inspectors for the second time in a row when visited on May 22 and 23.

The school, on Dell Loke, was given top marks in all four of Ofsted's criteria - achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

It builds on the success of the last inspection in 2007, where the school was rated 'good' on pupils' achievement and teaching quality.

Stuart Odell, headteacher, said that the staff were delighted with the report.

'Everyone in school works so hard to enable each and every child to achieve the highest standards and be the best they can be, and we feel this report recognises and celebrates this.

'Together, we achieve great things.'

The report drew special attention to attainment in Key Stages 1 and 2 ,which has been above national averages for five years running.

It added: 'Pupils have extremely positive attitudes to learning. They know that they are in school to learn and that the school works effectively to improve their skills.

'Pupils respond quickly and positively to the school's high expectations.'

Inspectors also highlighted the quality of teaching. The report said: 'Teachers have a deep knowledge of the individuals in their care and are relentless in challenging them to do better.'

The 'close, trusting working relationships' between staff and pupils were highlighted as the reason teachers respond to students' needs efficiently.

In addition, Mr Odell's 'highly effective' leadership 'driving the school forward' was singled out by inspectors.

Angela Stephensen, Chair of Governors, said: 'It is always a joy to visit and join in activities at Trowse Primary School. Without exception, all members of staff, whatever their role, work so hard to ensure all the children are happy, safe and learn to the very best of their ability.

'Our parents are so supportive. Our children are a delight as they flourish in this exciting learning environment. We are so pleased that this has been acknowledged in the Ofsted inspection report.'
