We all see on TV the queues of wannabes lining up for the X Factor and The Voice. But I'm here to tell you about the incredible talent we have right here in Norfolk.

The youth music scene is buzzing and thriving with a plethora of awe-inspiring bands and young performers who don't get half the credit they deserve. Simon Cowell better take notice because this is where the real talent is.

We have an array of terrific music venues around Norfolk, such as OPEN and The Waterfront in Norwich, which constantly play host to some of this country's finest young artists. I often frequent these gigs and on many an occasion have been dazzled by the quality that I have witnessed.

However, you find these incredible acts performing to just a handful of people when their talents should be broadcast on a much wider scale. It is so difficult for them to get themselves noticed and the competition is rife. Many youngsters resort to open mic gigs and busking just to try to get themselves heard.

I've caught-up with a couple of the awesome young bands out there right now. Perfect Mistakes are an incredible up and coming band who have just released their latest wicked record. I was lucky to get the chance to hear from their lead singer, Marcus Krumins, 16, from Hempnall.

He said: 'The music industry now is very difficult to get into, purely because of social media and the views of society. I think that it is more luck than talent.

'I've been in my band for five, nearly six years, and only now have we started to be heard of. One of my favourite things about it is meeting all the other talented musicians, and how passionately they love what they do.'

So, basically, you need to be persistent and motivated and then hopefully your hard work will get you somewhere.

I also spoke to another amazing teen group, The Slides. Their lead singer Emily Upright, 16, from Norwich, said: 'We've been lucky - we managed to force our way in, although it took a lot of blood, sweat and lonely gigs.'

So if you're a young artist who's struggling to get anywhere, don't be downhearted. Just keep doing what you're doing and you never know, your big break might be just around the corner.
