Sausage dog Cecil is taking a bow wow wow in a Shakespeare anniversary tribute this week.

Paston Sixth-Form College students are performing The Comedy of Errors and A Midsummer Night's Dream to mark the 400th anniversary of The Bard's death this year.

And Cecil - whose full name is Cecilia - is lapping up attention by supporting one of the 'leads' in The Comedy of Errors.

North Walsham-based Paston's Far East Theatre Company has adapted the play and given it a contemporary setting.

Cecil plays the lapdog of Adriana, wife of Antipholus, one of the identical sets of twins around whom the play revolves.

Cecil appears three times, once looking cute in a handbag. Her owner, Jess Chamberlin, a recent performing arts graduate, said that she was delighted that Cecil was starring in the performance.

'I am extremely proud of Cecil's achievements. She melts so many hearts and takes up everyone's attention during rehearsals,' said Jess.

Cecil is said to be enjoying the attention so much that Jess may have to become her agent.

There is even talk about Cecil becoming the Paston College mascot.

The plays last just over an hour. The Comedy of Errors opens this evening and continues all week (February 2-5), with performances at 7.30pm plus a 1pm matinee on February 3.

A Midsummer Night's Dream runs from February 9-12 at 7.30pm with an extra matinee on February 10 at 1pm.
